The walled city of York has York Minster, good shops, old streets, many museums and two theatres, as well as Roman and Viking remains. Our region also has the famous Yorkshire Dales, as well as ancient monasteries such as Fountains Abbey and great houses such as Castle Howard, Beningbrough Hall, Ripley Castle, and Harewood House near Leeds. Hull, Leeds, Sheffield, Wakefield, Bradford, Huddersfield and Halifax all have Yorkshire heritage well worth seeing as well as contemporary visitor centres and museums, good train services and welcoming hosts.
Note that York is very popular with tourists and with Servas travellers. If you have difficulty in finding a host to accommodate you, try hosts who live in Harrogate, Knaresborough, Leeds and Bradford. These towns have regular train services to York and are in easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales.
